Internship Opportunities

WorldChicago Internship Program 

WorldChicago offers a unique opportunity for college students, graduate students, and recent grads with an interest in international affairs to gain hands-on experience and insight into citizen diplomacy initiatives of the U.S. government and local programming. Through a mix of short- and long-term projects, interns develop their skills in program management, communications, research, events, nonprofit, and citizen diplomacy. Volunteer, stipend and college-credit internship roles on a full- or part-time basis are for an semester or academic year. 

The following internship roles are available*: 

International Programs Internship — Assist in the management of various U.S. Department of State and other federal government-sponsored international exchange programs, including the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP), Embassy exchanges, Youth Ambassador programs; and other special projects. Day-to-day tasks to support the above exchange programs include: 

  • Research local resources and issue areas for international program themes 
  • Coordinate professional appointments, roundtable discussions, field visits, and tours 
  • Draft proposals for upcoming programs and research new program opportunities and funding sources 
  • Accompany international delegations to professional and cultural activities in Chicago 
  • Coordinate youth-focused meetings, discussions, field visits, and tours around select program themes. 

Development Internship:responsibilities such as the management of events, community outreach, public relations, social media strategy, and WorldChicago fundraising initiatives. Day-to-day tasks include: 

  • Assist with outreach and publicizing of events  
  • Coordinate program documentation, including photography and social media posts 
  • Attend in-person events promoting WorldChicago initiatives 
  • Support event planning of major fundraisers 
  • Update WorldChicago social media: LinkedIn, Instagram, 
  • Assist in the management of WorldChicago Customer Relationship Management (CRM) with Salesforce.  

    *To apply for an internship, please submit a current resume and one-page cover letter (Word or PDF) that addresses why you are applying for the internship, your relevant experience, and the skills or experience you are most interested in gaining through the internship. Your cover letter should also specify the semester you are applying for, your preferred start and end date, your ability to work remotely/in person, and the days and number of hours per week that you are available. Ideal candidates are undergrad juniors/seniors or graduate students and work 15-20+ hours a week for 3-4 months. Special consideration given to interns receiving course credit/school scholarships for the internship.
